Traveling to site

By car:

The easiest way to get to the site is via car, travelling down the A1.  This is easily navigable by GPS.  There is ample parking.

By air and public transport:

Train timetables can be found at http://www.ns.nl/en.  Info on paying via contactless debit/credit card is available at https://www.ns.nl/en/travel-information/check-in-check-out/debit-card

From Schiphol (AMS) Airport:  Train from Schiphol to Rijssen Station.

Take the train from Schiphol to Deventer.  This may need to be via Amersfoort or Utrecht. From Deventer take the train to Rijssen.  We will organise pickups from Rijssen station if needed.

At Schiphol

Follow the ‘train’ signs to the central hall of the airport.  The easiest option is to use your contactless debit/credit card to check in/out of the trains- info available at the NS link above.  If you cannot/do not want to do this, then at the yellow ticket machines, you can buy a paper ticket for a small extra fee, or an OV chipcard for 7.50 and load credit on it (please note you need a minimum 20 EUR credit on the card to travel by train.)  If you don’t think you’ll do any additional travel in NL then the paper ticket is the most straightforward option if contactless is not an option for you.  Purchase a single ticket, be careful not to accidentally purchase a return as the returns are for the same day.

If you do use an ov card, we recommend loading €60 onto it- this will allow you to have enough credit for the train trips to and from site.  (We recommend loading more if you are planning on doing more traveling around Amsterdam or NL, though in this case a contactless would be much easier.)  You can get the leftover balance refunded by filling out this form https://www.ov-chipkaart.nl/en/credit-refund

Once you have your ticket or ov chipcard if needed, make sure to check in at the little stands near the platforms by placing your ticket, chipcard, or contactless card against the check in stand where indicated- you’ll hear a beep when it has checked you in.

Take the escalator down to the train platform – the trains to Deventer are usually at platforms 1-2, but make sure to check the signs before going down the escalator to ensure the train hasn’t switched platforms, this happens fairly frequently at Schiphol.  Please note everyone needs to check in, no matter whether you’re traveling contactless, with a paper ticket, or with an ov chipcard.

Here is what the check in stands look like:

The stop before reaching station to change is usually 7-10 minutes before the changing station.  When the train leaves the station before your final destination, it’s a good time to gather your things and make your way to the doors to ensure you can disembark.  At the the final station of Rijssen, make sure you check out the same way you checked in before leaving the station.  This is especially important if you are traveling via contactless as otherwise you will be charged the maximum traveling fee.

Pickups/dropoffs will be arranged via Rijssen station only – we will ask for your travel information a week or two before to arrange schedules, and ask you to please indicate in your registration if you think you will need a pickup and/or dropoff.  Please note you might need to wait a short while at Rijssen, but we will try to minimise the delays.

By taxi:

We strongly recommend *not* picking up a taxi from the taxi ranks at Schiphol Airport- this will be extremely expensive.  However, if you can get a group of people together (at least 4 recommended), Centrale Schiphol Taxi has reasonable rates.  More details can be found at the below website- please contact them directly for a quote.
